Are you being informed, entertained or merely patronized by TV3's Inside New Zealand? This program purports to help viewers make informed decisions about their health by providing unbiased information on treatments for mental and emotional health problems.
Through Inside New Zealand and other similar programs, we see how personal trauma affects people’s relationships, their businesses and their lives; we see how this affects the emotional and mental health of people, their families and their communities.
There are plenty of great mainstream therapies and services helping people with emotional and mental health issues. However, many are ill equipped to deal with the fundamental energy trauma issues that drive people into mental health care, hospital emergency rooms and/or as crime statistics. There are alternative treatments, but the trouble is viewers are not hearing much about them from mainstream media.
Could this be because alternative treatments don’t work? Or because there’s no evidence of their effectiveness? I do not think so. The evidence is there, but it seems programs such as Inside New Zealand are unwilling to share it with viewers. I know this from first-hand experience. Early last year, no longer able to sit passively by, I decided to take action.
In good faith, and with the support and help of friends, I wrote a letter and sent it to someone who works for TV3 but has nothing to do with the Inside New Zealand program. Let us call this person Bill. Bill seemed to be a man of integrity, and a good person with whom to start a positive and neutral dialogue about how my own work had been deliberately misrepresented by TV3 and Inside New Zealand, how this could be rectified and ways to integrate more information on alternative healing in general into TV3 programming
After a year and a phone call to prompt him, I have not heard back from Bill, or TV3, or the producers of Inside New Zealand. Now, I am making the letter I sent to him public, so you can decide whether or not viewers are getting a raw deal.
Here it is:
Dear Bill...
I am writing to you because I believe you have the integrity needed to give this matter the attention and consideration it deserves; and will do your best for all parties involved.
This is a story of how TV3 filmed and documented information, then deliberately misled the public.
I am an energy healer working from a clinic in Auckland and have a client base that is reflective of many health clinics in NZ.
I have been writing for magazines on alternative answers to many of our health problems for more than ten years and written two books on this subject.
Over that time, I have also given service to other clinics and people with illnesses such as A.I.D.S, drug addictions, depression and bi-polar disorders.
In 2001 the director of an Inside New Zealand documentary called “Phobias and Obsessions” approached me. The director had been working with a number of health professionals filming the treatment of four mental health patients for nearly a year.
One woman who lived in a full care mental health facility had a long history of extreme anxiety, phobias and obsessions. Over many years, she had had hundreds of hours of therapy and was still taking maximum quantities of prescription drugs.
She was usually unwilling to come out from under her bed covers and when she did was angry and uncooperative. Because of her disruptive, antisocial behavior, action had been taken to move her to other accommodation. During filming, she had shown no signs of improvement. I was asked to work with her and I agreed.
The filming of the documentary was close to completion when we met and she agreed to the first treatment - which was very relaxing for her. After the second treatment she emerged from the room happy and radiant. The director said he was amazed that her mental and emotional state could change so quickly.
The caregivers and her parents were relieved as they witnessed her new and increasing happiness. She made many improvements and started to participate in the life around her.
We worked together over the next few weeks. She began to decrease her medication, the director continued filming, and documenting the continuing positive results; the stabilization and strengthening of her new found peace and happiness.
Soon, at the editing stages of the documentary, the director came to me and said a decision had been made by TV3 management to ‘cut out' the success of her healing because it was ‘too successful’.
A shot of her success in the documentary, was film taken before I worked with her.
What was intriguing was that the program didn’t seek to show alternative answers by airing the success of this healing modality - and help people who tuned in for some solutions - it chose to diminish this work.
What was so foreign for TV3 management seven years ago would today be seen as fairly mainstream by the NZ public, who are well known for their openness to new and innovative ideas.
Since that time, the receptiveness to natural healing has grown even more. For instance, we have seen how the power of public opinion has been able to force the government to withdraw from the Australian TGA.
My specialty of being able to see and integrate a person’s energy fields, to balance and regenerate their mind and emotions, is known and viewed as life changing by people from all walks of life, including anesthetists and heads of hospital departments.
While some therapies and medicines have their place, most of my clients agree that many ‘prescribed cures’ are actually interfering with the ability of the body, mind and spirit to regenerate itself.
It is now an established fact in the USA that the legal system is swamped with crime that is caused by the breakdown in emotional and mental health treatment.
It is plain to even the most obtuse viewer that this breakdown is creating extreme despair in many areas of society.
Viewers, I suspect, would be mystified as to why the story was changed; that prevented them from gaining truth and insight that would help them make an informed decision about the care they could be receiving.
Myself and others continue to be concerned that TV3 chose to hide the success of this healing treatment.
I know you are aware of many health and addiction problems and I invite you to open the door to help those who are suffering needlessly.
There has never been a better time for new and innovative thinking; for alternative answers to be presented on mainstream television, as part of the solution to the worries and ill health that increasing numbers of people are seeking solutions to.
There are safe, successful alternatives to mental illness and drug addiction - proof of which is on file - in the cutting room of the ‘Inside New Zealand' archives.
Thank you for taking the time to read this letter. I trust your judgment and would value your point of view. I hope you will consider the material and contact me to explore this subject further.
Yours sincerely
Kay Urlich
